Genre: Drama, Mystery, Shoujo, Romance, School Life, Slice-of-Life, Supernatural, Tragedy

In the Spring she was 16, Takamiya Naho receives a strange, but detailed letter from herself, ten years in the future. At first she thinks the letter is a prank, but then the things written in the letter actually happen, including the new transfer student that sits next to her in class, Naruse Kakeru. In the letter, her 27-year-old self tells her 16-year-old self that her biggest regret is that Kakeru is no longer with them in the future, and asks her to watch him closely.

So I don’t usually read – much less write – posts around the shoujo/drama genre, but there was just something about Takano Ichigo’s Orange that compelled me to get typing. The story revolves around a high school girl called Naho, who somehow receives a letter from herself 10 years into the future. The letter orangebasically tells her to re-do the things that her 10-years-later self (let’s call her Naho2) regrets even to her present day, from the little things such as not stepping up as a batter in a class softball tournament, to not being able to save somebody very, very precious to her.

Gosh I feel old but it’s about half a year since I’ve turned 21, and chungky’s also just turned 21 so Happy Birthday dude. Anyway, around the time I turned 21 I started doing everything I always wanted to do, but had been afraid of failing, or having people laugh at me since 1991. There’s always this nagging at the back of my head saying “Well you could’ve done it 10 years ago; you just chickened out,”. I should have been more persistent, I should have been braver, I should have said this, I should have done that. Should, should, should.

But I didn’t.

While loitering in the park, Shimana Kameko, who intended to run away from home and skipped school, meets a suspicious man in a kimono. This man, who had been locked out of his house, offers Shimana a place to stay. However, he requests she fulfill three conditions in exchange for her tenancy!?

Remember how I shared some artwork of Bambi no Tegami by Takano Ichigo? Well, here I present to you a work that I love!

This is currently one of my favourites, it has romance and laughter in store and  the artwork is 110% my cup of tea, just look at the illustration above.  Takano Ichigo makes her art-work unique by making the teeth of her characters quite sharp. The male characters also have a more shonen quality to it, rendering them more like studs than what’s commonly seen as ‘bishounen studs.’ The art of the female characters are pretty too, they’re more cute & pretty than beautiful and they have this child-like quality which I find unique. Manga-Talk: Bambi no Tegami

So for the past 10 minutes, I’ve been wondering how M.W. will run Mushroom Manga and Manga-Talk posts. I was confusing myself and I’ve already forgotten why. Lol. Anyways, I’ve concluded that Mushroom Manga is strictly for recommendation :))). All the other rants shall be included in this post.

So, England is suffering from adverse weather and Christmas is coming up. I was desperately trying to find some snow or Christmas-y themed sort of manga when I stumbled on Bambi no Tegami by Takano Ichigo. Is there Christmas? No, but the heroine lives on this hill with tons of snow, and – well, Bambi makes me think of Rudolph the red-nose reindeer.

Bambi no Tegami is about a girl who’s stricken with bad luck but one day she casts a spell from a magazine (I found this weird) to obtain 3 months worth of good fortune. Soon she meets this mysterious guy and he helps her blah blah blah and then her best girl-friend reveals that she loves the heroine’s crush and then we have a bit of drama. Oh, and the heroine had a reindeer in he past named Bambi and the mysterious guy remind her of Bambi because he has comforting quality – I found this sweet. The story is quite rushed and the story-telling isn’t a good as it could be, and well, the main reason for this post is that I wanted to share these pretty illustrations of the manga:

It’s snowy and Christmas-y and there’s a guy and a gal, which suggests love. What a wonderful Christmas will that be! Well, I’ve got nothing to add now so til next time! Hopefully I’ll find a really nice snow/Chritsmas-y manga next round. Why is my skype not working :x?
